HHCGA Latinos for Health Fundraising Luncheon to Take Place in Sept

ATLANTA - Aug. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, GA —Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia (HHCGA) will hold its annual Latinos for Health Luncheon on Thursday, September 26 from 11:30AM-1:30 PM in the ballroom of TWELVE Hotels at Atlantic Station.  As part of the event, HHCGA will award the Latino Health Excellence Award to an outstanding leader in the area of Hispanic health.

The Latinos for Health Luncheon will bring together over 200 health providers, hospital executives and others who support HHCGA’s work to improve health outcomes for Latinos.  The event will feature Dr. Eduardo Sánchez, Deputy Medical Officer for the American Heart Association as the keynote speaker.  Dr. Sánchez also currently serves as Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Chair of the National Commission on Prevention Priorities, and a Food & Society Policy Fellow. In addition, he serves as co-chair of the National Governors' Association Childhood Obesity Advisory Council and as a member of the IOM Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity.

“With the advent of the Affordable Care Act, which will enable thousands of Georgia Latinos to secure health insurance, it is critical that we address the health disparities commonly faced by Latinos” said Eduardo Montaña, Executive Medical Officer at Children’s Cardiovascular Medicine and HHCGA Board Chair. “The Latinos for Health Luncheon will highlight successes in eliminating health disparities as well as what still needs to be done. I encourage leaders throughout the health care community to come together and support HHCGA’s efforts to eliminate the many cultural, and policy barriers that affect Latino health in Georgia.”
