PRLog -- After Pope Francis’
trip to Brazil there has been a media storm about some of the comments that he boldly made referring to homosexuality and the part that he will allow them to play in their ministry. The Pope has went on record as saying that “If a person is gay, seeks God and has goodwill, who am I to judge?”
He did not change the church’
s tenet that says that homosexual acts are sinful. The leaders that were interviewed by the Chicago Tribune were well pleased with the Pope’s stand and said that it wasn’t anything new. While there were more things brought up in this interview let’s look at this so far and break down what the Word of God says on this issue.
To begin with there is the Pope, and that he is the head of the Catholic Church, which by default means that the Catholic Church is not a part of the body of Christ. Here are just a few examples that the Bible gives to show who is the head of the Church, Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10, Luke 20:17, Acts 4:11, 1 Corinthians 11:3, Ephesians 1:22 5:23, Colossians 1:18 2:10, and 1 Peter 2:7. Interesting enough is that Peter the one that the Catholic’
s believe to the first Pope was adamant that Christ was and is the Head of the Church. The Church after all is Christ’
s bride adorned and awaiting the second coming of the Bridegroom!
Secondly, Pope Francis has changed the Vatican’
s stance on the gay issue from what Pope Benedict XVI said in 2005, when he said that men with deep seated homosexual roots should be barred from ordinances. Now, if the Pope speaks and it is considered as the word of God then how could it change when Malachi 3:6 says that the Lord does not change? If we try to do what Piers Morgan (Catholic) would like to do and, “drag the Bible kicking and screaming into the twenty first century”
what we would effectively do is bend a standard to fit our lives. What might houses look like if carpenters went around bending squares to fit the houses they built rather than build house to the square?
Next, dealing with the subject of homosexuality, homosexuality is a sin simple as that. This is not up for debate, God said it was a transgression and that is final. In the interviews with the Catholic leaders, they kept saying that this is about loving people, which is a false statement because if you really love someone you wouldn’
t let them destroy themselves in this world or in the coming judgment. In the Gospel according to John, Jesus says that we will be judged by the Word, the Word says that all forms of sexual perversion are sinful. And no one that participates, either by act or by will, will inherit the Kingdom of God. How could someone who claims to believe the Word say they love anybody who actively participates in a sinful action and maintain that they love that person?
Finally, according to the Pope the sinful act is what solidifies the sin. But in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus Christ says that the intents of the heart are what make sin. He who is angry with his brother without cause is in danger of judgment. And if you look at a woman with lust you’ve committed adultery with her already in your heart. This cuts through this self righteous idea that a person can “have goodwill”
and “seek God” as the Pope put it and still be a homosexual. This type of thinking is not unlike the Pharisees in the days Jesus’
ministry on earth. The Pharisees being the people referred to as blind guides that strain gnats and swallow camels.
Real love is honest!
