AVON, Conn. - Aug. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- If there’s anything like an undiscovered instant classic, “Lune Brisée” definitely fits the bill.

The vivid instrumental by Gary Alt, one of New Jersey’s most interesting independent musicians, is a powerhouse composition that is at once dramatically beseeching and mysterious. As one observer put it, “This tune is raw emotion. Blues-rock at its best. The fact that it’s a four-year-old composition by an independent artist makes it all the more extraordinary. Once you hear it, you’ll know it’s an instant classic, undiscovered though it may be.”

That’s the sentiment expressed by several listeners once the tune started popping up in discussions on social media. Responding to listeners who wondered about its origin, Alt said that its passionate and spectral nature is precisely the mood he felt as a young child after waking from a disturbing dream with the musical concept of the song firmly in mind. It stayed with him for years. He completed it in 2009—when he was 51 years old—and after arranging it recorded the track playing all the instruments, including guitars, keyboards and percussion.

“In the dream I was looking up at the sky and saw the moon begin to crumble. It gave me a feeling of despair,” says Alt. “When I woke up I wondered if it was just my mind’s way of telling me that life and relationships can be difficult and unpredictable—and that you just have to find a way to cope.”

“Lune Brisée” is French for fractured moon. Originally composed as a tribute to guitarist Jeff Beck for a CD Alt entitled “Tribute,” “Lune Brisée,” as one listener said, “is ethereal and full of longing.” Another listener wrote, “It has a touch of melancholy without being maudlin; I’d listen to it anytime.”

The song is available as a single download on Amazon, iTunes, CDBaby and other online sites.

In addition to writing, recording and producing CDs under his independent New World Songs label, Alt is also a popular disk jockey on WNTI (http://wnti.org/01About/DJBios/Gary_Alt.asp) (Hackettstown, NJ), where his Beatles show, “The Cavern,” plays to an increasing number of devoted fans every Wednesday night from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Alt’s 2-disc “Tribute” CD (also available through several online sources) is an exuberant homage to nearly three dozen of his most important musical influences, with original songs reminiscent of the works of Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Burt Bacharach, Chick Corea, The Beatles, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Allman Brothers and, of course, Jeff Beck. Alt’s other CD albums include “It’s About the Kids, “Alien’s Heart,” “Not For Sale to Minors,” “Open Road” and “Art of Survival.” His website is at http://GaryAlt.com.
