Znaka: A Different Kind of Social Media

Changing the way people socially interact with others through social media.

There can be little doubt that social media—which has become hugely popular in recent years—has changed the way that we interact with other people. Before the social media explosion, our interactions were limited to our families, close friends, neighbors, co-workers and people we ran into during the course of our daily lives, but now social media allows us to interact with far more people than was previously possible. Moreover, we become exposed to more opinions, beliefs, and knowledge.

There are drawbacks too, mainly that the interactions primarily exist in the computer and not in “real life.” But what if you could not only make the on-line interactions more meaningful, but also expand those interactions into the outside world? Znaka—the new social media website for parents that combines the best features of most popular social media platforms onto one easy-to-use site—manages to do exactly that. One can only wonder why nobody thought of it before.

By creating a platform that is “micro-tunable” by the user through the use of filters and features, Znakans can define what information comes to them, who it comes from, and the size of the geographical area that makes up your on-line “neighborhood,” all of which can then be leveraged into actual, real life activities, programs and meet-ups. So how does Znaka work?

Neighborhoods

Znaka has a distance filter which allows the user to define the geographical area—called a “neighborhood”—wherein your social interactions will take place. For example, let's say you're

more interested in conversations with other local moms and their trials and tribulations with kids in the same town that you live in. After all, you may share the same interests such as what activities and events are available for families where you live, not some other town or state. If you don't want or need to see posts from people across the country, why should you? With Znaka, you can define your neighborhood to a specific radius such as within 25 miles of your home, and it's easy to define with the Distance Filter.

Multiple Neighborhoods

Rigidly defining your Znaka neighborhood doesn't restrict Znaka to that one single purpose. One of the site's more ingenious features is allowing users to define more than one neighborhood for themselves. Suppose you are a divorced female and your kids spend every weekend with their father outside the area you've defined as your neighborhood. You can add an additional neighborhood to find out what sort of events and deals are going on where your husband lives simply by putting in his zip code. Furthermore you can specify that you only want to see the events and deals but no conversation from other moms. Once you know the things that are happening in your second neighborhood, you can recommend some activities to your kids and your ex-husband. After all, just because your kids are away doesn't mean you're not interested in what they're doing.

This same feature is very useful if you'll be traveling. Simply create a neighborhood for where you're going and get all the information on what events and activities you'll have available when you get there.

Gender Specific

Another unique Znaka feature allows users to post something that is only viewable by a particular gender. When you post something on Facebook, it will be seen by all your friends and friends of friends. When you post on Znaka, because it is a public social wall, every registered Znaka user within your neighborhood can see it (unless you choose to have it only seen by friends). But say you're pregnant and have some sensitive questions or seek advice from other women and don't want males to see. Znaka can do that. Simply designate that your post goes to women only.

Znaka is a highly flexible site that relinquishes control to the user so users can adjust it to be just want they want it to be. Visit Znaka and find out why it's a new kind of social media website for parents.
