The Antpod Faction - A Story about Asperger Syndrome and Empowerment

LEEDS, U.K. - July 23, 2013 - PRLog -- The Antpod Faction is the debut novel of Alex James, who is a young author with Asperger Syndrome who lives in Leeds in the United Kingdom. The Antpod Faction is a science-fiction adventure novel that is an allegory for the human condition.

The Antpod Faction is a novel about the struggles of one female antpod called Mase, whose differences resemble Asperger syndrome, which is a form of autism. Because of Mase’s social differences, she is isolated, confused, and detached from her kind.  Antpods are organic androids that live in antpod society. But lurking in the background of antpod society is a Spy War, where powerful organisations carry out hits on their rivals. Mase decides she wants to integrate with her kind; find her purpose in antpod society; and reconnect with her family. But when she witnesses a series of unprecedented massacres aimed at antpod civilians, she is forced to go into hiding. Mase is compelled to find a new path, among the chaos that antpod society has become. How will she survive?

The Antpod Faction is about isolation and obsession, and how this power can be transformed for the good of antpod kind, and, therefore, humankind. This isolation and obsession is displayed by the main character Mase, who possesses many traits of Asperger Syndrome, which is a condition that is characterised by obsessive routines, difficulties in social interaction, and sensory overloads. As somebody diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, Alex James knows what it’s like to live with this condition. Unlike those diagnosed with autism, people with Asperger Syndrome are ‘hidden’. This means it is not obvious that they experience the difficulties they do by their outward appearance.

Mase is mostly alienated because of differences that set her apart from other antpods. Her isolation and obsessions are the results of this alienation. Mase has a unique profile of strengths and weaknesses, which makes some things very difficult, and some things very easy for her. This is much the same for most people with Asperger Syndrome -- being very capable and very incapable at different things.

About the Author

Alex James is an author who writes about alienation and empowerment. Many of his characters are alienated. They must become empowered, and the only way this can occur is through political conflict, battle, or war. Alex James plans on releasing a heroic fantasy novel next called Roc Isle: The Descent. Fans of heroic fantasy can expect blood, battle, war, sorcery, and a mysterious fantasy land called Roc Isle.
