July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- At a recent talk he gave to hundreds of people at a conference in London, Business Coach & Motivational Speaker extraordinaire Ryan Malfara advises that there is nothing more powerful than a made up mind.

If anyone knows the validity of that statement from firsthand experience, it’s him. Feeling stuck and unsure of how to proceed in the spring of 2011, he turned to a close friend for guidance. The friend, knowing Ryan needed to recognize his strengths (a winning combination of athletic prowess and a supremely positive mindset)in order to eventually achieve business success, encouraged Ryan to sign up for the Polar Race( http://ryanmalfara.com/pictures/polar-race ). Literally the world’s toughest race, this 26 day, 450 mile competition required him to compete for anywhere between 10 to 14 hours each day with no breaks –with a 125 pound sled on his back and in temperatures ranging from -20 to -100.

His eye on the prize (succeeding in the race in the short term; succeeding in life in the long run), Ryan cast aside his doubts and took the leap. In the end, the race turned out to be infinitely more challenging, but also much more rewarding, than he could ever have anticipated. It made him realize he could do anything he set his mind to, and allowed him to recognize his true calling to lead others.

Here are the lessons he learnt from that invaluable experience, without which he would never have achieved his current level of success:

•Do what you do best. Pinpoint your unique strengths and doing work that’ll allow you to put them into action. The rest should be outsourced. Today for Ryan, this means hiring a bookkeeper to look after his finances. During the Polar Race, it meant being the leader of the group by motivating and managing based on participants’ assets.

•Obstacles are not there to keep us out – they’re there to show us how badly we want something. During the Polar Race, Ryan came across countless seemingly insurmountable barriers. But having been told by his coach that there would be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (in his case, true life success), he kept putting one foot in front of the other, overcoming the worst pain he’s ever felt until he made it to the very end.

•For every area you truly want to succeed in, get a coach.  Having them by your side, especially when you’re headed off course or feel like giving up, is essential. They’re the ones who will remind you why doing what you’re attempting to do is so important and that you have the power to see it through. They’re also living proof that it can be done, and they’ll give you invaluable tips and tricks to make your rise to the top possible. Without his coach, Ryan would never have made it to the end of the Polar Race or become as distinguished a public speaker if not for the guidance and support of his mentors.

•Take action! Unless you put your plan into action, it is absolutely meaningless. According to Ryan, this is one of the single most important keys to being successful. His ability to do that (even in the most trying of circumstances, is the main reason why Raymond Aaron – Canada’s #1 Success Coach – was first drawn to him.
