Starkey Mortgage, Brock Built Present Check to The Butterfly Fund

By: Brock Built Homes

ATLANTA - July 23, 2013 - PRLog -- On July 16 Starkey Mortgage (WR Starkey Mortgage, LLP NMLSR# 2146) and Brock Built Homes presented a check in the amount of $750 to The Butterfly Fund on behalf of Starkey’s Community Connections program, one way that Starkey Mortgage gives back to the communities they serve. The donation will be used to help “butterfly children,” those who suffer from the incurable disease Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic connective tissue disorder that causes painful blistering of the skin and the mucous membranes. EB children are known as “butterfly children,” due to the fact that their skin is as fragile as a butterfly’s wing. The disease affects one in every 50,000 live births and can often times be fatal within the first year. There is currently no cure for EB. For now, treatment focuses on addressing the symptoms, including pain prevention, wound prevention, infection and severe itching that occurs with continuous wound healing.

“As a parent, I can’t imagine not being able to pick up or hold my child. Knowing how much pain they go through and that they may never be able to walk or be touched – I want to do as much as possible to help ease that pain,” explained Ansley Brooks, on-site agent for Brock Built Homes’ Dupont Commons community.

Brooks was made aware of the disease through Facebook; she now sends everyday medical supplies including band aids and Aquaphor directly to the homes of children affected with EB, and encourages others to participate. Additionally, Randy Bailey (NMLSR# 544528 GA License# 32944), senior loan officer for preferred lender Starkey Mortgage, presented Brooks with the opportunity to further contribute to the cause through the mortgage company’s charitable initiative, Community Connections.

Starkey Mortgage’s Community Connections program was created to allow the mortgage company and its loan officers to contribute to the needs of the community while helping families finance the homes they desire. For each loan closed by Starkey, the loan officer and the mortgage company contribute $100 and $150 (respectively), towards the homebuilder or homebuyer’s charity of choice. In the past year, over $60,000 has been gifted to charities in Starkey’s local communities across the United States.

The Butterfly Fund is run fully by volunteers; no salaries are paid, which allows for 100 percent of all funds raised to go directly to family assistance in the form of financial aid, food, housing, clothing and care. You can find out more about this great organization at www.thebutterflyfund.org.
