Follow on Google News | Tech tip: Trailer and Fifth Wheel Axle BearingsWhen traveling with a towed recreational vehicle it is important to be mindful of your axle bearings. The axle bearings allow your wheels to turn under the weight of the RV.
By: Alpin Haus http://www.alpinhaus.com: One reason it is critical to have your bearings inspected is that if one fails it often damages the axles spindle. Most repair facilities do not stock or have the ability to repair spindle damage readily. If damage to a bearing is not noticed immediately the supported axle will most likely need replacement. Axles vary greatly from RV to RV and therefore are not readily stocked. Be sure not to seek baerings out on ebay--you're going to want them new. Simply put, a bearing failure can be a vacation disaster, if not destroyer. A leading indicator to bearing failure would be signs of grease or oil on tire rimsof your camper's wheels. If you are not confident in removing and inspecting the grease seals yourself, contact a facility that is. Bearing maintenance will keep not just your family safe, but also those sharing the road with you. Many facilities can repack or inspect the bearings and brake assemblies on a camper while you wait. On average the maintenance costs a couple hundred dollars a year. Maintaining the running gear on which your recreational vehicle travels will help ensure you make the most of your free time, and keep your RV on the open road! http://www.alpinhaus.com: have a great summer!
