WASHINGTON - July 1, 2013 - PRLog -- (WASHINGTON, District of Columbia, US) July 1, 2013 – The Alliance for Global Education has announced a new multi-country study abroad opportunity.  The semester-length program, entitled “Power, Politics, and Population,” will launch in Fall 2014. Building upon the Alliance’s expertise in both China and India, the program will spend eight weeks each in Beijing and Delhi.  The 15-credit program features coursework that spans international affairs, culture and society, communication and media studies, and political economy.

Janice Levitt, the Alliance’s Executive Director, explains, “China and India are increasingly commanding international attention as rising economic powerhouses and strategic partners – for the United States and each other. By spending significant time in both capital cities, students will examine the power dynamics, domestic politics, and population pressures that shape these nations’ presence on the world stage.”

A full slate of field visits and co-curricular activities leverages the Alliance’s networks in both capital cities by taking learning outside the classroom and engaging students on-site.  Opportunities may include guest speakers from U.S. and European political delegations as well as international organizations such as UNICEF, the Red Cross, and the World Wildlife Fund.  In addition, students will complete a capstone project that examines a particular area of their interest within a comparative framework.

According to Dr. Andrea Custodi, the Alliance’s Director of Academic Affairs, “We hope that this program may serve as the first in a portfolio of innovative, interdisciplinary multi-country programs that, in addition to our high-quality immersion-oriented current programs in China and India, will continue to distinguish the Alliance within the field.”

The Alliance for Global Education, LLC, a partnership of two not-for-profit entities, the College of Global Studies at Arcadia University and the Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University, was formed with the vision of opening study abroad destinations in Asia to an ever-growing and more diverse U.S. undergraduate population.  The Alliance provides stimulating, interdisciplinary study abroad programs in China and India that maintain high academic standards, strong student services, and careful health and safety measures. Its core mission is to develop and promote innovative programs in vibrant, dynamic Asian countries that are of ever-increasing scholarly, political, and economic interest.  Learn more at http://www.allianceglobaled.org.
