Sourcefire Joins ICS-ISAC as Supporting Member

ARLINGTON, Va. - June 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Washington DC, June 20, 2013 - The Industrial Control System – Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ICS-ISAC) announced today Sourcefire, Inc., a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, has joined as a supporting member in a collaborative endeavor to advance cybersecurity for critical infrastructure.

On February 12, 2013 United States President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order (EO) titled “Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.” (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2013/02/12/executive-order-improving-critical-infrastructure-cybersecurity) This Executive Order provides national guidance for efforts to secure critical infrastructure with a focus on information sharing and situational awareness. The ICS-ISAC is leading development of a National Situational Awareness Reference Architecture in support of the EO, an effort Sourcefire is substantially contributing to.

“We see it as imperative to develop a repeatable reference architecture for national situational awareness,” said Marc Blackmer, Sourcefire senior manager of industry solutions. “Our roots as the creator of the Snort open source intrusion prevention system (IPS), that serves as the basis of our leading commercial Next-Generation IPS, in addition to innovation like retrospective security that roots out evasive, advanced malware, give us a unique ability to support this critical mission. Working with the ICS-ISAC and its membership we believe real progress can be made in the security of our shared infrastructure.”

“The tools exist to create situational awareness at a national level,” said Chris Blask, ICS-ISAC chair. “Sourcefire made its fame by creating the original open source intrusion prevention system (Snort) and has built a position of global leadership on that technical focus on situational and network awareness. With support from organizations like Sourcefire it is well within our grasp to demonstrate the architectures which facilities can leverage to rapidly advance effective security.”
