GeekTank Business Plan Competition Judges Choose Three Startups Out of 70 for Final Round

MIT Enterprise Forum South Florida, Miami Innovation Fund Host Startup Contest at Citrix, Winner Takes $31,000 in Cash and Services
 
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - June 17, 2013 - PRLog -- FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- The MIT Enterprise Forum of South Florida and the Miami Innovation Fund have announced the three companies out of 70 entrants that will move on to compete for $31,000 in cash and services at the Tuesday, June 18, 2013, event GeekTank, a business plan competition designed to foster growth within the entrepreneurial ecosystem in South Florida.

This sold-out event will feature power point presentations from the three companies chosen for the final round. Beginning at 6:30 PM, each company will have 10 minutes to present, followed by 10 minutes of question and answer sessions during which a panel of expert entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and angel investors will offer valuable advice to the participants. The winner, to be announced at 8:30 PM, will receive a $20,000 term sheet from the Miami Innovation Fund, $5,000 in legal services through Edwards Wildman’s Help Innovators Thrive program, and a LAB Miami membership valued at $6,000.

The following companies, invited to continue to the final round, were chosen as having the most promising ideas from over 70 submissions to the contest:

Tara Husband - DrugPlug

Christian Holterhaus - Iflavor

Travis Smith - Athletic Select

Event organizer Franc Nemanic, board member of the Miami Innovation Fund and CEO of Crunchfire Technologies, is hopeful that this event will spark continued interest in developing new companies in South Florida. Nemanic says, “There is no better time in history to start a company and we hope that this event is a catalyst towards encouraging people in the audience to launch their big idea.”
