Follow on Google News | Women Business Owners Add 175,000 New JobsOhio is Among the Fastest Growing States for Women-Owned Business
By: Women's Entrepreneurial Network (WEN) In just the last 5 years, these savvy business owners were able to grow their businesses and added 175,000 new jobs to the workforce. Alicia Wagner, Director of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Network (WEN) in Toledo, Ohio calls these numbers “ridiculously amazing.” She says “These stats are not surprising and very timely considering that 80% of all new businesses being started today are being started by women. Women are leaving Corporate America in droves and it's not to stay home, it's to stay competitive, provide flexibility for their families, and gain greater profitability as men are still making more money in Corporate America than women. That glass ceiling simply does not exist when women are guiding their own destiny and income potential in their own business. This isn't a new revolution we're seeing; this is a long overdue evolution of women being seen as equals in the workforce." In an effort to promote and encourage women business owners and those that support them, WEN is co-hosting the Women’s Distance Festival a fund-raising event to be held at Fallen Timbers Mall in Maumee, OH on August 3rd, 2013. The 5K run, Heels Race, and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes events begin with registration at 7:00am and continuing all morning. The proceeds of the festival will support local nonprofits such as Girls on the Run, WEN, and Toledo Roadrunners Club. Sponsorships are available to support the event and allow businesses to promote their products and services to participants. Sponsorship packets can be found at https://www.wen- To register for any or all of the events, please visit https://www.wen- As women-owned businesses continue to emerge and strengthen the Ohio economy, communities, businesses, and families will be integral in promoting this growth. WEN is an organization established in 1993 with the purpose of supporting entrepreneurial businesses with encouragement, resources, training, and networking. The organization is not exclusive to women-owned business with ⅓ of the membership being men. WEN is committed to all businesses in the community who wish to grow their business, regardless of their current size. ### If you’d like more information on this topic or to schedule an interview with Alicia Wagner, Director of WEN, please call her at 419.944.5561 or connect with her by email: director@wen- End
