Proove Biosciences is Proud to Partner with HC DrugFree and Support the Drug Take Back Initiative

IRVINE, Calif. - May 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Proove Biosciences, the leader in personalized pain medication innovation, is pleased to announce that the latest National Drug Take Back day was a huge success, resulting in the collection and responsible disposal of 387 pounds of prescription drugs.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day began in October 2012 and is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. In September 2012, The Partnership at Drugfree.org kicked off The Medicine Abuse Project in conjunction with the September 29, 2012 Take Back Day in order to educate the public about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.

HC Drug Free, a non-profit based out of Howard County, Maryland, and Proove Biosciences partnered to host a town hall meeting at a Take Back Day in September 2012, where a video about the dangers of prescription drug abuse was shown, and community leaders discussed the local problems with prescription drug abuse. Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Executive Director of HC DrugFree, states, “because of the donations and support from our partner, Proove Biosciences, HC DrugFree can better educate the public about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.”

HC DrugFree originated at Oakland Mills High School in 1995 as the Eastern Coalition Against Substance Abuse (the “Coalition”) to respond to the alarming number of teens using illegal substances such as tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.  Additionally, this effort allows the Coalition to better respond to the increase in drug-related problems in schools (truancy, violence, weapons, gangs) and in the community.
