Actress and Director Danielle Pinnock Announces the launch of The Body Image Project Blog

New York, NY May 28, 2013 – Playwright, director and actor Danielle Pinnock who created The Body Image Project (http://bodyimageprojectplay.com/), is pleased to announce the launch of The Body Image Project Blog.  The Body Image Project began as her dissertation for graduation from Birmingham School of Acting in the United Kingdom.  In September 2012 Ms. Pinnock graduated with first distinction honors with a Master’s Degree in Acting.

The Body Image Project consists of a one-woman verbatim play Danielle compiled and directed. The idea for this play came from Danielle’s own perception of her body image and it grew from there. It took her on a quest to find people in the United States and the United Kingdom who would share their personal stories on their bodies. The Body Image Project is a play that every single human being can relate to.  The women and men that were interviewed in for this play are extremely diverse in religion, sexual orientation, race and creed.

The Body Image Project premiered and was performed in March 2013 at The Strawberry One-Act Competition in New York City, where it won the award for “Best Actress in a Performance.” The play also garnered a “Best Director” and “Best Play” nomination.

Danielle says “The Body Image Project Blog was developed so that people could share their own personal stories about how their own perception of self-image affects them on an everyday basis. I want to create an open forum to discover the in depth definitions of the word "beautiful." Body image has been a topic of interest of mine ever since I was a child.  When developing the play, I realize that this show is bigger than me; it is a worldwide campaign that everyone can relate to. I want to bring this one-woman show and blog to audience members around the world.”

The Body Image Project Blog is a precursor to many more things to come for this play including a documentary, a book and a nationwide play tour.  The blog is an open forum for anyone and everyone to express their feelings and thoughts on their own body image.  There are still many people to interview that range from people working in particular industries where body image has surrounded their everyday lives to people who have been burned or have disfigurements to transgendered people and every one in between.

This project started out as a play for Danielle’s dissertation, but it has grown into so much more.  This project has taken on a life of its own and continues to evolve.  The Body Image Project is still in the infancy stages of where it will go and what it will do for anyone that wants to embrace and understand their own body image.  It started out as a verbatim play has become a campaign.
