HOLLAND, Mich. - May 2, 2013 - PRLog -- (Holland, MI) ERM announced today that internationally recognized author, speaker, and worker safety thought leader, Phil La Duke, will present “Why I Continue To Pick On Safety Professionals” at ENFORM Banff 2013 in Alberta, Canada. La Duke, a Partner in ERM’s Performance & Assurance Practice specializing in worker safety transformations, will present his topic as well as field questions at a Q&A session later in the day. Why I Continue To Pick On Safety Professionals is slated for 10:30 a.m. –12:15 p.m., Thursday May 9 and the breakout Breakout Session: Q&A is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. that same day.
The theme of this year's ENFORM conference is Leadership: The Evolution of Safety. The oil and gas industry is constantly evolving, as are its standards of leadership and safety. La Duke, who is both an expert in leadership development and an outspoken critic of what he sees as a “dearth of leadership in worker safety” seemed to be an ideal addition to this year’s sold-out conference.
“When I was approached about speaking at ENFORM, I accepted immediately” says La Duke. “but I was a bit surprised when they told me the topic they would like me to present. It’s not often people want me to speak about why I pick on the people in the audience.”

The topic was first addressed buy La Duke in a blog post of the same title (La Duke authors a weekly blog www.philladuke.wordpress.com and guest blogs for
http://www.safetyrisk.com.au/,  www.monsterworking.com and (http://www.safetyrisk.au.com/) www.monsterthinking.com). He also writes a monthly safety column for Fabricating and Metalworking magazine and is a regular contributor to the digital only, QHSE Focus magazine.  His work can also be seen in Facility Safety Management magazine and ISHN magazine.

“ENFORM is a new venue for me and I really am excited to address an audience filled with Oil & Gas safety professionals; there’s a lot of work to be done in this segment” says La Duke. When asked about his growing notoriety and controversial topics La Duke is unconcerned, “I think it’s important to get people to think, especially in the safety profession. Unless people have a visceral response to the message, it’s hard to change their minds.  Increasingly, people are seeking out opinions that reinforce their own world views. I like to shatter that world view and force people to confront their values; I might not change the whole room’s perspective, but if I am able to make a single person consider that there might be a better way I feel I have been successful.”

La Duke’s brash, in-your-face style has brought him an international following and has drawn praise from the safety media. One of the leading publications devoted to worker safety, ISHN, cited La Duke’s aggressive blogging as the reason for including him on its Power 101 ─ a list of the most influential global leaders in worker safety and named him one of its Up & Comers In Safety Thought Leadership.
