Citybuzz Marketing Share Top Tips To Improve Your CV

Manchester, UK, April – Citybuzz Marketing believe your CV is the first impression – so you must make it a good impression.

1.   Proofread it twice - It is incredible how many people submit CVs with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. One small typo and your chances of getting hired could slip. Proofreading it once is not enough, so do it twice, three times or as many as necessary. If you don’t know how to proofread effectively get somebody else to read through it before you apply to any jobs.
2.   Achievements instead of responsibilities - CVs that include a long list of “responsibilities included…” are plain boring, and not efficient in selling yourself. Instead of listing responsibilities, therefore, describe your professional achievements.
3.   No pictures - Sure, we know that you are good looking, but unless you are applying for a job where the physical traits are very important (e.g. modelling, acting etc.), and unless the employer specifically requested it (be wary), you should avoid attaching your picture.
4.   Keep it relevant - You don’t need to list all your work experiences. If you have job experiences that you are not proud of, or that are not relevant to the current opportunity, you should just omit them. Mentioning that you used to sell hamburgers when you were 17 is probably not going to help you land that executive position.
5.   One or two pages - The ideal length for a CV is one or two pages at maximum. Just keep in mind that provided all the necessary information is there, the shorter your CV, the better. Stay within two pages because the initial review of a CV is very brief - as little as 13 seconds. HR look for several items, including companies worked for, job titles and length of time in positions. These should all be prominently displayed.
6.   Shine - CVs are not just a showcase of your experience and skills, but also of your personality so be interesting. Speak with confidence and ease when describing your accomplishments. Try to come across as friendly and open, professional but personable, and super-knowledgeable in your field to add depth and interest to an otherwise rather boring document.

Last points: Do not refer to yourself in the third person and include your phone number. We know YOU wrote it and 1 in 10 CVs are missing a phone number and people do not always have time to chase you!
