Follow on Google News | Freewheeling At Cheltenham TownThe registered charity comprises a group of motorcyclists providing a free out-of-hours courier service for hospitals, covering Birmingham to Bristol plus Swindon and Oxford; its team carries everything from blood and human tissue to X-rays and patient notes, working from 7pm to 7am every night of the year, as well as weekend days and bank holidays. The initiative has been sponsored by Cheltenham-based company, Polygon Marketing and its MD, Martin Allerton, a Gillingham supporter who recently had first hand experience of the invaluable service that the Severn Freewheelers undertake. “Severn Freewheelers provides a key amenity to hospitals in the area and we hope that all supporters attending the game will give generously to this excellent charity,” explains Martin. “We want to play our part in conjunction with Cheltenham Town to sustain a service which benefits so many people and what better timing than when The Gills are in town.” “First and foremost, we’d like to thank Cheltenham Town and Polygon Marketing for giving us the opportunity to do this,” adds Severn Freewheelers Chairman Paul Fairbank. “All our riders and dispatchers are volunteers. They have an advanced riding qualification and special training to use lights and sirens. In short, we’re a professional team delivering a professional service, free to the NHS at the point of use.” “Donations are vital to keep us afloat. The service cannot run without the money raised by our members; it’s perhaps the most important thing that we do. At £45,000 per year to run the service, the fundraising never stops!” For more information, visit http://www.severnfreewheelers.co.uk/ End
