Natasha Wescoat Relaunches Official Website

Michigan artist, Natasha Wescoat is pleased to announce the launch of her new official website, Wescoatfineart.com. Now based in Michigan after a 3 year stint in Los Angeles, California, this artist is dispelling the “starving artist” myth. For over 9 years, Natasha boasts of having collectors in countries like Japan, Spain, Australia, Dubai and the Meditteranean island of Malta with an expanding licensed brand, because of the power of the web and social media. In 2011, after several years of her work being taught in classrooms and art workshops around the world, she was invited to teach her own lesson to adults and children at a Wescoat themed weekend in Destin, Florida. In that same year, she acquired 3 new licensees to her belt and painted live for charity at a huge new media tradeshow in Los Angeles.

The artist says, “Classrooms in Sweden and Singapore will contact me and say, ‘Hey! We watched your painting videos in class. I want to be an artist!’ That’s just amazing to me. The response to my work is very humbling. I have people who will email me, even elementary school kids who are inspired by me. It changes their outlook on life and gives them hope for their own dreams.”

Natasha’s web savvy and love of business is what gave her hope when there was nothing available in her small hometown of Standish, Michigan. “When I was a young mother of 2, I couldn’t find jobs in my area. Everyone was either unable to give me work, or I didn’t have the skillset. After months of applying to jobs and trying to get something, that’s when I decided to create my own work.”, Natasha explains. In 2004, it became more than a hobby pursuit when her new-found success using the auction site eBay helped launch her career. It was where she first met one of her newest collectors, a producer of ABC television network show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”.

Since then, Wescoat’s art is licensed to companies that sell in stores like Target, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath and Beyond and Aaron Brother’s and now can boast over 1000 hanging in private and corporate colletions around the world.

“I’m so grateful that I’m able to say I do what I love. It can be hard at times, but it’s worth it as long as my heart is in it and I do the work.”

Despite the recession and it’s affect on the job economy, her art still sells successfully, even in odd places on the web, like Twitter or her Facebook page. Through the use of social media networking and her art videos, Natasha has made her work more accessable to collectors and has overcome the odds of her circumstances. Natasha is one of the first artists on the web to begin using live streaming to paint her work live, which has attracted the founder of Justin.tv to attend and promote one of her public live painting events in San Francisco. Her growing has also attracted companies like Ford, MySpace and Mashable to work with her, and has allowed her to give talks at events like Blogworld & New Media expo and South By Southwest, the annual music, film, and interactive conference and festival held in Austin.

Wescoat’s new site will be more interractive than ever, as the artist says she’s doing more videos, livestreaming and socially connected events to make her art more approachable and accessable to a wider audience. The artist says that she hopes that now that she’s back in her homestate, she will participate in more events in Michigan, and interract with her art community at the local level.
