Ventura County Ballet Company’s new traveling dance troupe, DAnce ART, to perform at local events

April 3, 2013 - PRLog -- (VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.) – Elegance, grace and originality will converge in the form of dance as Ventura County Ballet Company (VCBC), the premier dance company of the Tri-Counties, will introduce DAnce ART – a traveling dance troupe composed of its elite dancers set to perform an array of exquisite up-close performances at regional events this spring and summer to help raise money for local nonprofit organizations.

DAnce ART will make its debut performance on Thursday, April 25, to raise funds for the Ventura Film Society at a very special screening of “First Position,” an award-winning documentary that follows six young dancers from around the world as they prepare for the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious international ballet competitions. Three of the six DAnce ART ballerinas who have trained extensively for years with VCBC – Anna Miller, Victoria Smith and Olivia Smith – competed in the acclaimed dance competition in February; Miller and Victoria Smith both placed in the top 12. This was Miller’s second time being invited to compete; she made it to the second round in New York City in 2012. She aspires to train at the Vaganova Academy in Moscow, Russia and hopes to attend later this year.  

Leading the talented group of young, pre-professional dancers is Marina Fliagina, VCBC’s choreographer and associate artistic director who’s danced for world-renowned ballet schools: Moscow State Theatre Kremlin Ballet, Russian Imperial Ballet, Moscow Classical Ballet and Moscow Festival Ballet. Fliagina has choreographed a beautiful dance piece to the music of Frank Sinatra that will be performed at the movie premiere.
