Follow on Google News | California Energy Commission Approves HotSpot Solar Air ConditionerCEC Awards First-Ever Solar Mini-Split AC Approval to HotSpot Energy
By: HotSpot Energy LLC The HotSpot solar air conditioner is a hybrid AC-DC unit, meaning that it uses up to 700 watts of DC power from solar panels and then uses normal AC power to make up any extra power needed. During the daytime, up to 90% of the power can be provided by solar power. The ACDC12 is designed to connect to three standard 235 watt PV panels, or other combinations of solar panels that reach a total of up to 700 watts power. At night, a SEER >19 rating ensures that the unit runs very efficiently when using normal power. The ACDC12 solar AC is actually a solar heat pump, meaning that it is reversible and can be used for both cooling and heating. The HotSpot solar AC system can be used to heat or cool an area up to 700 square feet, such as a converted garage or attic, room addition, construction or school trailer, or remote telecom facility, etc. The ACDC12 can also be used to augment an existing central system by helping the less efficient paid-energy main HVAC system reduce its operating requirements, for pennies per day. The HotSpot Energy engineering team has been working with solar air conditioning since 2007, developing several prior units designed to work with DC-only power, and requiring batteries. The new ACDC12 unit does not require any batteries. The HotSpot ACDC12 received its ETL/UL Listings in December of 2012, received its EnergyStar approval in January of 2013, and received CEC approval in March of 2013. The CEC approval can be seen on the CEC website at http://www.appliances.energy.ca.gov/ About HotSpot Energy HotSpot Energy LLC is an established specialty HVAC manufacturer with a long history in heat recovery and HVAC energy efficiency products. HotSpot, headquartered in Chesapeake VA, has been under its current ownership since 2007. Since 2007, HotSpot has improved and expanded its line of industry leading commercial and residential heat recovery water heating products, and released a line of heat recovery pool heaters that were recently featured on a This Old House television episode. Heat recovery water heating and pool heating involves capturing and recycling waste heat rejected by air conditioners, coolers, or freezers. HotSpot also manufactures a line of all-DC and AC-DC powered solar air conditioners. CEC standards have saved Californians more than $74 billion in reduced electricity bills since 1975. The success of standards and other energy efficiency efforts is a significant factor in California's per capita electricity use remaining flat over the last 40 years, while the rest of the country's use continues to rise.
