Now More Than Ever: St. Vincent De Paul of Seattle|King County Wants Your Old Car!

SEATTLE - March 18, 2013 - PRLog -- St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County, (SVdP) wants and needs your car to help people in need, particularly since car sales are increasing.

“According to the Wall Street Journal, car sales are up, and we are experiencing an increase in our car donations. We are stressing the importance of this now because donating your car it is an easy way to help people who are struggling and get a tax benefit at the same time,” says Jim McFarland, director of marketing & communications.

SVdP officials say the need for donated cars is more pronounced because thousands of families in King County are struggling with the impact of stagnant economic conditions. St. Vincent de Paul turns the donated cars to cash very quickly. This conversion helps the organization provide support to our neighbors in need.

“Car donations are a very easy way for families to make a significant donation to our organization and at the same time get a substantial tax benefit and car sales are up and that means more opportunities for car donations,” says McFarland.

McFarland says the organization is now averaging close to 200 calls per day at its Help Line Call Center, many from families headed by women with children who are really having trouble in this economy. He says the pockets of poverty in King County now include many middle-class families, something SVdP calls the “new face of the poor.”

SVdP says the primary requests for help include food, shelter, clothing, and utility assistance.  Often $100 to $200 can provide rental assistance to a family, who would otherwise be evicted.  “When we can, we sell your car for cash.  If we can’t sell your car, we use it for parts. And we always recycle as much of the car as we can at the end of the line.   Every car creates cash, which enables us to help people,” noted McFarland.

SVdP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which served over 200,000 people last year in home visits, case management, food bank, and related programs.  About 92 cents of every dollar donated goes to our social service programs.

Donors can visit http://www.svdpusa.com/DonateMyCar.aspx or call (800) 322-8284 to arrange to have the car picked up with all of the paperwork sent directly to the donor, including the documentation for tax deduction.
