By: UBM INDIA This current economic environment makes it the ideal time for UBM India to launch Ecobuild India 2013. The industry is the largest employer after agriculture, providing occupation to around 35 million people and the figure is expected to rise to 92 million by 2020. This current economic environment makes it the ideal time for UBM India to launch Ecobuild India 2013. Mumbai: Building upon the anchor event in London, Ecobuild UK, one of the world’s largest exhibition and conference dedicated to the future of sustainable building design, construction and the built environment, Ecobuild is coming to India eight years after its launch in UK. The event is scheduled to take place from 16th-18th April at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The biggest challenge for modern India today is to find a model of sustainable urbanism, architecture, and design. There is no doubt that buildings contribute to 40% of all carbon emissions in the world and therefore, must be green to be sustainable. It is time for systemic thinking from the highest levels of government, policy and education to the grassroots levels of the common man. The Ecobuild exhibition floor will feature several leading players showcasing environment friendly building products and technologies including energy and water saving equipments and products, waste management methodologies among others. A unique, one of its kind experience zone will provide information, comparative analysis and demonstration on products and technologies related to lighting, plumbing fixtures, water conservation and harvesting, alternative building materials and technology, solid waste management techniques, all of which would be beneficial to developers, architects and consultants. Ecobuild India’s prestigious conference and seminar programme would comprise two streams titled, “Beyond the Built Environment: The prominent speakers at the event will include leading Green developers - Dr. Chandrashekar Hariharan, CEO, Biodiversity Conservation India Ltd; S Padmanabhan, Director, South Asian Regional Initiative for Energy , Senior Energy Advisor, USAID/India; The event strives to reflect the changing dynamics of the sustainability agenda and is supported by leading associations like GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment ), CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India), IIID ( Indian Institute of Interior Designers ), RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), BRE (UK’s Building Research Establishment) “Developers play a crucial role in making cities a better place to live in and ensuring a better future for generations to come. Sustainable buildings use design techniques, materials and technologies that minimise a building's impact on the environment. The upcoming Ecobuild programme will go a long way in furthering the green movement. Attended by the most influential individuals and organisations in design and construction, the programme seeks to educate, inspire and inform people about efficient building environment” Sachin Sandhir, Managing Director & Country Head, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, South Asia says; “Ecobuild as a forum will undoubtedly play a pioneering role in creating a seismic shift in the design and construction industry in how we perceive buildings and our awareness of the impact of the built environment on the planet.” The key exhibitors at the event include Ashtech India, Pidilite Industries, Forbo Flooring, STP Industries, Baijnath, Green Build Products, Texplas Composites, Gyploc and many more. They would feature high quality sustainable products and services understanding local requirements and expectations of the built environment. The event would serve as an interesting platform for ‘building market’ professionals to get educated, informed and updated on the solutions to the challenges in the built environment besides offering a huge networking platform. Joji George, Managing Director, UBM India said, “While developed countries are facing a huge retrofitting challenge to reduce the carbon emissions of their built environment, India has the potential to get it right the first time. Ecobuild India 2013, the international sustainability conference and exhibition programme being launched by UBM India will be one of the largest events for sustainable design and construction in the built environment.” About Ecobuild: Launched in 2004, Ecobuild UK is held annually in March at London’s ExCeL and is the fastest-growing trade event in the UK.
