New Certification Takes Trades Industry to a New Level

TradeEDGE program helps educate and inform tradespeople in developing their business acumen

March 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Calgary, AB  Open any consumer book, read any newspaper, watch the news, or check out any online forum on renos and home repairs, and you will see the same stories over again:

A) customers suing tradespeople;

B) tradespeople not getting paid;

c) everyone-  customer, contractor and tradespeople, unhappy.

In the new book by Ellen Roseman, consumer affairs advocate at the Toronto Star, for instance, about one third of it is devoted to consumers complaining about contractors and tradespeople.

And that's not surprising, according to Calgary-based Business expert Nagui Bihelek.

"Tradespeople are often impressive on the tools—they know how to do the job—but they may not be as strong on how to wow the end-consumer. This leads to damaging of their brand name and often a loss in repeat business. We came up with a brand new certification that will train and educate tradespeople on all aspects of their business.”

With need for consumers and business owners to move in a direction that clarifies the nature of work growing, and to help avoid disappointment, Bihelek's team put together TradeEDGE, the first certification of its kind in Canada designed to advance the trades industry.

TradeEDGE is a certification program offered by Business Edge Coaching that teaches members of the trade industry how to put a system in place where it's clear to both tradespeople and customers: What the job is; how much it will cost; and what might happen if things go wrong. It will also work on sharpening the business acumen of tradespeople, something that isn’t a focus in trade school. With this certification they will be able to focus on the education of financials, time management, and providing consistency in service and quality of work.

Says Bihelek, “99.9% of the time when there is a problem between a contractor and customer, it tends to be one of communication. We want to solve those problems before they start and train tradespeople on how to wow their customers."
