Feb. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- EDWARDSVILLE – The Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation (GEACF) has awarded a $700 grant to St. John’s Community Care, an outreach of St. John United Church of Christ Church in Collinsville.

St. John’s Community Care is planning on putting the grant money toward adult day care furniture, equipment, and medical supplies.

“We are so grateful to the foundation for their show of support of the new Adult Day Care Program. This grant has allowed us to buy start-up medical supplies for the Nurses’ office,” said Nancy Berry, Executive Director.

St. John’s new facility will provide life-changing options for Edwardsville residents who are disabled and those who are senior citizens or are employed while confronting a caregiving dilemma that threatens both career and financial prospects. Additionally, the location will provide a safe, welcoming environment for those with dementia or other cognitive impairments or significant physical disabilities and will assure caregiving families that their loved one is receiving proper nutrition and compassionate care on a regular basis.

“We are proud and honored to have given a grant to such a worthy program full of caring and compassionate individuals,” said Mary Westerhold, Foundation Chairman for GEACF. “Those who have cared for an elderly or disabled family member know how trying and demanding ensuring your family member is well and cared for. This outreach have been caring for disabled individuals and senior citizens for over 20 years, and we feel that they are more than worthy of receiving such funds to aid them in better caring for these citizens in their new Adult Day Care Program.”

St. John’s Community Care chose to open a location in Edwardsville based on the number of service inquiries received from this community. “It made sense to offer the program in a community that indicated the greatest need,” said Berry. “Families struggle every day to care for their loved ones’ primary needs. We hope that this additional facility will better serve those in need.”

Created in 2001, St. John’s Adult Day Program in Collinsville often operates near capacity with many residents traveling to Collinsville from Edwardsville.

“Our new Adult Day Care program site in Edwardsville will offer convenient access so we can better serve all senior citizen and disabled adults in the communities of Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, and Granite City,” said Berry.

St. John’s Community Care has been providing compassionate care for people affected by the issues of aging or disabilities since 1985. That care is in the form of Adult Day Programs, Homes Services in 9 Metro East communities including Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, Caregiver Support Groups, free medical equipment loans and Caregiver Counseling on Resources.
