New Resource to find Arts Books, Arts docs and Arts Manuals !

Now just because it says catalog does not mean they are all for sale. There is plenty of free material on the website. What the site has that makes it a real jewel is it does not have the ''big box online store" feel to it.

Most of us looking for references and information on the internet are not always looking to buy that information. It is great to see a site that takes this into consideration offering both free PDFs, ebooks, manuscripts, articles and documents.

Some of the larger online reference/estores online have set standards ,page lengths as well as topics, that restrict the selection of their offerings.

If you read enough how to and non fiction books you will come across books that have excessive ''fluff' or filler. To most of us we recognize this when see it. Many of us even become offended at having purchased a book only to find useless, non relevant information.

Ever read a real estate ''How to Make Money '' book? I guarantee you the opening chapter will be their ''rags to riches ''story. I was struggling to pay my bills ......

To be honest this really is not the authors fault. Publishers like to see books of a particular lenght, 200 pages is what most are looking for. You could have a chock full of information, everything you need to know book but if it is not 200 pages they are not interested in the book. This is usually for them to be profitable, something that is hard to blame them for. They need to be able to charge a particular price to make the publishing,distribution, and advertising of books profitable. They do not believe they justify their needed price if the book is less than, on average, 200 pages.

There are many topics out there that 200 pages is not needed to cover the topic.

One topic that has many active searches are the various topics under the heading of art history. For those of you not familiar with art history it is the scourge of many art students in college, well at least until they can realize the purpose in teaching art history. I've never known an art major that did not complain about having to take art history.

One of the reasons they dislike it is the research involved in various reports that they need to submit for the course. "Understandably, research material is difficult to come by and then the always present demand from all college faculty, at least three different references!

There are many artists out there that while their contributions are important, they do not warrant a 200 page book written about them.

So where does that leave the art major? Well they always have Wikipedia but it is not unusual for college professors to rule out references from Wikipedia .Many professors do this because of how Wikipedia was put together. Laymen as well as academics wrote Wikipedia. An unacceptable situation for many academics.
