As President Obama fights for gun control and a ban on assault rifles, there are those that agree and those that disagree. So what should it be? Is it the guns that are a problem? Or is it the people who possess the guns that are the real issue at hand.

Defend Louisiana (http://defendla.org/), a statewide initiative to defend gun rights started by state Rep. Jeff Thompson, received 3,000 signatures during a Sunday stop at a gun show in his hometown of Bossier City, the Republican said Monday. Speaking to reporters at the Baton Rouge (http://www.nola.com/baton-rouge/) Press Club, Thompson reiterated his support for strong Second Amendment protections as well as a focus on gun safety training and education. Ricky Sinclair (http://www.rickysinclair.us) says that the problem is not the guns, instead it's the individuals that possess the firearms. As a U.S. citizen you have the right to bear arms according to the Second Amendment of the Constitution. When illegal guns are possessed by criminals that is what destroys our society. It is not the law abiding citizen who possess the legal firearm that creates the chaos that has been taking place in our schools and other public places.

"We're taking steps to make sure those who intend to handle guns know how to do so safely. We've got to do a better job. Probably more importantly, we need to make sure children in our schools are made aware of the dangers that guns pose," states Representative Jeff Thompson.

Should we take away teen driving because the statistics for traffic accidents is higher between the ages of 16-19 over any other age group. Not necessarily. The fact is that we have to teach the safety behind the wheel and give tests and determine if someone is fit to get their drivers license. What does it take to buy a gun? Do you have to pass an extensive 36 hour class? No. Do you have to pass an eye exam? No. Do have to take a psychiatric exam? No. So in conclusion, you can be an individual who has mental problems, with bad eye site (who can't necessarily see what is being aimed at), and had no kind of training and still purchase a gun. Now you tell me what is wrong with our gun laws and why we are having the outburst of violence.
