According to the donor, "We have a storage unit at Butterfield Ranch Self Storage in Temecula and we noticed that SDSS facilities were collecting toys for children during the holidays. Every year I work with a local retail establishment to donate bicycles for the toy drive, but this year, I was particularly moved by an experience I had with my daughter in Seattle and decided to increase the number of bikes I could possibly afford to donate. I have worked with my church on many occasions (Crossroads Church in Temecula), but when I had the opportunity to visit a shelter in Seattle where children have only had access to second-hand bikes, I knew I would have to do more this year. I was moved beyond belief at what a new bike could mean to a youngster who has nothing---a new bike is freedom, escape from a bad situation, exercise and the ability to be creative and realize a dream of ownership. When I was a kid growing up in a humble environment, I used to wash and polish my bike every day, and this gave me the prestige to fit in with the other kids in the neighborhood. I dropped several new bikes off to the children in this small Seattle town and the look on the young girls’ face, when she saw a shiny, new pink bike reminded me of how important a simple gesture like this can be to a foster child."
