Feb. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- BROKECHELLA 2013: SUBMIT YOUR BAND NOW

EVENT: 4/20/13

SUBMISSIONS CLOSE: 3/1/13

A music fest for the rest of us: Brokechella returns with its 3rd edition in the heart of DTLA to once again serve all of those who don't have the dough for a weekend in the desert. Don't miss what the LA Times recognized as the party experience that skips "the mortal terror of your credit card statement [at other festivals]" and "revels in staying at home." Doubling in size year to year, Brokechella 2013 is sure to yet again swarm with over a thousand people, the best of acts from LA and beyond, mouth-watering eats and surprises galore. Last year's Main Stage featured Infantree, LA Font, The Janks, Rumspringa, Big Moves and yOya, among others. Inside, bands played all day to packed crowds, while DJs led an army of dance fiends at the Jarritos stage outside. Come be a part of the oh-so-cheap magic, all happening on 4/20/13.

SUBMISSIONS FOR DJS and BANDS open NOW until March 1st, 2013. The lineup will be announced by 3/20/13.

***Brokechella 2012***

On April 21, 2012, from 4pm-2am, nine hundred people congregated in downtown Los Angeles to see 20 up-and-coming bands and DJs at Six01 Studio (http://six01studio.com/Six01Studio/START.html) in the warehouse district. In addition to the music, guests chowed down on deliciousness provided by Starry Kitchen and Mucho Perro, and the unique artists of the Illyrian Players (http://www.illyrianplayers.com/) were also on hand to face paint any and all who wanted (which was a lot). The largest event to date produced by cARTel, Brokechella was officially sponsored by Imperial Beer (http://imperialbeerboutique.com/),Jarritos (http://www.jarritos.com/), Activate (http://activatedrinks.com/), Bedrock Rental (http://bedrock.la/) and many more (http://www.brokechella.com/sponsors.php)).

The festivities caught the eye of several media outlets and publications, including The Los Angeles Times (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2012/04/coachella-2012-brokechella-revels-in-staying-home.html), The Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/19/things-to-do-in-la-this-weekend_n_1438061.html), NBC (http://www.nbclosangeles.com/the-scene/events/Brokechella-2012-148122435.html), and was hyped by DailyISO (http://www.dailyiso.com/events-brokechella-2012-in-los-angeles-this-weekend/) as the "cool younger brother" to that other festival out in the desert. But by the end of the night it was clear that, after just two years, Brokechella has blossomed into a cultural touchstone all its own: a unique celebration of music and art by people in LA, for the people of LA, right here in LA. And all for just $5.

And next year will be even bigger and better.*

(*Though we can't necessarily promise the return of the Tupac pinata.)

***cARTel: Collaborative Arts LA***

As you might have noticed, we do a lot of stuff. A lot. We bring locals together through boundary-pushing arts events and highly collaborative, ensemble-driven productions. We fill our audiences and our casts with people who are not interested solely in performing or solely in watching, but rather in sharing the experience of art with one another. We look to empower both long time and beginner artists by providing inspiring opportunities to create and perform, diverse and affordable workshops, and dynamic venues to meet and engage with like-minded visionaries. We believe that a community alive with art will thrive with conversation and understanding, and progress. Art conversing with people conversing with people conversing with art.
