Inaugural 2013 Cures Within Reach Midwest BioScience Industry Campaign Honoring Michael Rosen

Feb. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Inaugural Cures Within Reach Midwest BioScience Industry Campaign is now in process, culminating in a dinner event co-chaired by a committee of leaders from the Midwest BioScience community including Nancy Searle, Senior Advisor to the Civic Consulting Alliance, Bill Gantz, President & CEO of PathoCapital, and Jeff Aronin, CEO of Paragon Pharmaceuticals.  Proceeds from this event will further research sourced and managed through the nationally focused non-profit Cures Within Reach, while bringing together top executives from the BioScience Industry to honor Forest City’s Michael Rosen as a leader and connector in the field.  

Cures Within Reach was founded in 2005 as a Chicago-based not-for-profit organization helping patients by repurposing FDA-approved drugs and devices to deliver fast, safe and affordable treatments for diseases and rare disorders that have insufficient or nonexistent therapies.  By finding, funding and managing clinical trials with this approach, Cures Within Reach has emerged as a leader in the repurposing revolution, working to transform patient lives through research that looks backward to move forward.  Past research has delivered seven treatments in use today in both major disease areas and rare disorders including Multiple Sclerosis, Autoimmune LymphoProliferative Syndrome, Lung Cancer, Prostate Cancer and Familial Dysautonomia.  Current research projects are in process at many of their select insitutional partners, including Mayo Clinic, the Seattle Children’s Hospital, Rush University, The University of Chicago, Weill Cornell and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  “We are honored to be working with so many generous and dedicated people and companies in the Midwest BioScience industry to dramatically and quickly improve the lives of patients in need.  The funds raised together will allow us to create great results through significant, targeted research.  Cures Within Reach is the engine driving this Repurposing Revolution, and the Midwest BioScience Industry is providing the fuel,” says Dr. Bruce Bloom, President and CSO of Cures Within Reach.

Michael Rosen has been chosen to receive the inaugural Legacy Award based on his leadership and involvement in the BioScience industry in the Midwest and his professional and personal interest in the betterment of the regional community.  Currently the Senior Vice President of the Forest City Science + Technology Group, Rosen is responsible for developing marketing strategies for Forest City's biotech projects across the United States and serves as their liaison to the life science industry developing ongoing day-to-day working relationships with Forest City's biotech/research clients and major research universities with emerging technologies. Prior to Forest City, Mr. Rosen spent 32 years as an executive in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries in the U.S. and abroad having worked and lived in Europe, Asia and Latin America.  He is also a founding member, current board member and former vice-chairman of IBIO, the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization (and chairman of its predecessor organization).  Comments Mr. Rosen, “Many of us joined the BioScience Industry in response to a sincere desire to have an impact on on significant diseases and improve the quality of life and outcome of patients’ lives.  I am proud to be the inaugural honoree in this campaign to enhance BioScience connections while driving patient-centered research.”
