"A Rising China: Challenges or Opportunities?"

Jan. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- On February 7, The World Affairs Forum, with support from the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations' Public Intellectuals Program (PIP), which is funded by the Henry Luce and C.V. Starr Foundations, will host a special panel discussion ,“A Rising China: Challenges or Opportunities”. The event will take place in the GenRe Auditorium at UCONN/Stamford. The program will begin at 7:00 P.M. and end at 9:00 P.M. The panel will feature Dr. David Denoon, David Firestein, Dr. Andrew Wilson and moderator Dr. Yinan He, and will address China’s economic and political challenges and opportunities.

Dr. Denoon is the Director of the NYU Center on U.S.-China Relations. He has served in the federal government in three positions: Program Economist for USAID in Jakarta, Vice President of the U.S. Export-Import Bank, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.

David Firestein is Vice President of the EastWest Institute. He leads EWI's China, Russia and United States programs.  Firestein is the author or co-author of three books on China.  He was the first foreigner ever to have a column in a People's Republic of China newspaper.

Dr. Andrew Wilson is a Professor of Strategy & Policy at the U.S. Naval War College.  He has also published two books on the Chinese overseas. Recently he has been involved in editing a multi-volume history of the China War, 1937-1945, and he is completing a new translation of Sun Tzu’s Art of War.

Dr. Yinan He, the moderator for the evening, is a PIP fellow and professor at Seton Hall University, where she teaches international security, causes of war, and China's foreign relations.  She also researches politics of memory and reconciliation, East Asian international security, Chinese and Japanese foreign policy, and national identity and nationalism in East Asia.
