Hendersonville Library’s New Look

Jan. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Hendersonville, NC.   The Henderson County Public Library has been working to renovate their facility and benefit from the latest in signage, courtesy of Asheville SIGNARAMA as part of a four year renovation program.  

“It’s exciting to see the gradual transformation of the library, as we move forward to improve our facility, commented Sara McGough, librarian at the library.  “The facility has not been renovated for over 20 years.  It had become dated and it needed a fresh look and feel to enable us to better serve the community.  The library is in a wonderful building and is also in a great location within the city, just a couple of blocks from historic Main Street.”

The library adopted their strategic plan and vision in 2011 and part of this vision is the establishment of the decorating committee which oversees the aesthetic changes for the library.   In the 2nd year of the four year strategic improvements they have worked hard to replace carpets, chairs, signage, painting and general.  They have carefully chosen a minimalistic approach and have chosen a color scheme of natural earthy tones of greens and browns that provide a fresh and welcoming feel.  

The library caters to four generations of Henderson County residents, so every aspect is carefully reviewed.  One very critical aspect is the need for effective signage that is appealing to this diverse age range.   The library needed to create an environment that enabled anyone to find what you want easily.    When it came to replacing their internal signage the library asked to two companies to bid.   Asheville SIGNARAMA was selected, due to their vision and approach in working with the library.  “They impressed us, as they listened to our needs, and looked at the work already underway.  One aspect which amazed us was they took photos of our new carpets and pulled various key colors from the carpet to examine and demonstrated the impact of the various colors for the signs.  The entire process was great.  They spent time to explain the various types of signs, size of fonts, colors, materials as well as the best location within the library to place them.  Every aspect was considered to ensure that they were easy to read and in great visible locations. They were professional and kept us informed throughout the entire process.”

To see the improvement already made please visit the library.  The strategic plan also includes providing access to the digital world including improved access to the internet, use of ebooks and the ability to leverage the growing impact of digital media.   It also works to reach out to young readers, and works to provide a facility and services to support and assist the community.
