2013 Honda Accord Earns a Top Safety Pick+ Rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

The recognition comes in the face of more stringent testing by the safety organization.

Jan. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Headquarter Honda (http://www.headquarterhonda.com/) in Clermont, Florida has long been a premier auto dealership, offering the full lineup of Honda vehicles to drivers throughout the area. Their dealership is proud to represent Honda for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the automaker’s thorough commitment to safety. That commitment has been demonstrated yet again, as the 2013 Honda Accord has been designated a Top Safety Pick+ vehicle by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Both the Sedan and Coupe models of the Accord earned the new Top Safety Pick+ designation (http://automobiles.honda.com/news/press-releases-article.aspx?Article=7025-en) — the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS — with the Accord Sedan being one of only two midsize to earn an overall “Good” rating in the IIHS’s new test.

The new test is a small overlap frontal crash test — sometimes known as a “narrow offset test” — that’s designed to simulate an impact with another vehicle or a tree, utility pole, or a similar object.

In addition to the Top Safety Pick+ designation earned by the new Accord Sedan and Coupe, numerous other Honda models have earned the designation of Top Safety Pick, including the Civic, Fit, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Insight, Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline.

Noting that eleven 2013 Honda vehicles have been awarded Top Safety Pick status, American Honda’s vice president of product planning and logistics, Art St. Cyr, said, “American Honda offers a well-rounded lineup of vehicles that are not only fuel efficient and fun-to-drive, but that also offer top safety ratings.”

It’s unsurprising that the Accord leads the pack with the Top Safety Pick+ rating. After all, it takes advantage of the second generation of the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (or ACE II) body structure. It’s designed to distribute crash energy throughout the vehicle to minimize damage — something that’s also crucial to excel in the new test from the IIHS.

Honda’s commitment to safety also shines through in the numerous standard safety features that come standard in all new models, including Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, anti-lock brakes, and comprehensive airbag coverage.

Headquarter Honda is proud to represent an automaker with a thorough dedication to ensuring the safety of drivers; those who wish to see the full lineup of new Honda vehicles should visit their dealership in Clermont, Florida (http://www.headquarterhonda.com/hours.aspx).
