New Music Store Opens in Hanover, MA, with Strings, Picks and Drumsticks Aplenty

Dec. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- If you’ve ever been in the market for a guitar or drum, a handful of shops on the South Shore likely have what you need. But finding new accessories for those instruments isn’t so simple, as stores only carry limited selections.

A new shop called SNC Stores, which opened in Hanover last month, is actively broadening that playing field.

Specializing in guitar strings, picks and drumsticks, SNC Stores delivers the largest selection of musical accessories in the area, and sells them at wholesale prices.

“We designed the shop like a convenience store for musicians,” said Nate McKelvey, co-owner of SNC Stores. “People can pop in, quickly and easily find what they need, and be on their way.”

McKelvey says SNC Stores carries more than 850 guitar string types, 500 pick styles and 600 drumsticks. Its extensive inventory gives musicians unlimited opportunities to create musical sounds and tones specific to their unique needs and preferences.

“When customers come in to the shop for the first time, they’re blown away,” he said. “Most of them never knew how many options are really out there. They really are like kids in a candy store as they check it all out.”

McKelvey adds that even his industry contacts and vendors have never seen anything quite like it.

SNC Stores began as an e-commerce site a little over a year ago, but with recent changes in search engine optimization (SEO), McKelvey realized that having a physical location was beginning to make a lot more sense. While the Hanover store continues to build foot traffic, the company completes about 50 to 60 online orders per day online.

In addition to its store and online services, SNC Stores has a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SNCstores), which helps musicians share and stay apprised of music trends and news.

For the past three and a half years, McKelvey has owned an umbrella company called Hidden Equity, which includes several partners, including McKelvey’s older brother, Mark, a musician and base player for more than 30 years. Mark sparked the idea for SNC Stores, knowing first-hand the challenges of tracking down and ordering musical accessories from reputable, reliable sources.

“Getting access to musical accessories is a real challenge for a lot of musicians, particularly those who live in more remote areas,” say Mark McKelvey, who lives in Maine, and has had his own struggles finding accessories for his base guitar over the years. “Having a place where virtually anyone can find and get what they need definitely fills an untapped market.”

Nate and Mark McKelvey grew up in Duxbury. In high school, Mark played in a band with Juliana Hatfield, who has since become a critically acclaimed singer and songwriter.

Opening the store in Hanover has been bit of a homecoming for both brothers.

“It’s feels pretty great to open a business that serves the South Shore community,” said Nate McKelvey, who plans to launch additional SNC Store franchises in the future. “We couldn’t think of a better place to start.”
