When asked why he wrote the book, James Witham said, “Having acquired a number of businesses across a broad spectrum of industries, we found most owners were woefully unprepared to sell their business. We saw a tremendous need to educate entrepreneurs on how and why to prepare to sell their business.”
Co-author Karen Laustsen added, “We have translated the expertise we acquired through frustrating acquisition experiences with unprepared business owners into this informative book, Selling Your Business? Get Prepared! The book goes hand-in-hand with the consulting services we offer to small business owners.”
Selling Your Business? Get Prepared! includes more than 30 anecdotes interspersed throughout the text depicting acquisition scenarios the authors have encountered and the lessons that can be learned from each. Thought provoking tasks following most chapters engage the readers to focus on preparation requirements, understand the acquisition process through the buyer’s eyes and prepare for the scrutiny of due diligence.
Chapter titles include: Why Be Prepared?; Steps of the Selling Process; Why Are You Selling?; What Are You Selling?; Why Would Someone Buy Your Business?; When Should You Sell?; What’s It Worth?; The Cost of Selling Your Business; Should You Hire a Broker?; Finding A Buyer; Your Employees; Preparing Your Business Profile; Preparing Your Selling Memorandum; Preparing for Due Diligence; Preparing to Meet Prospective Buyers; and Preparing for a Site Visit.
