Manassas, Virginia – 11-12-2012 – The exploding need for English teachers is being fueled by developing nations, most notably China. With schools offering better pay and benefits than a few years ago, thousands more are being swept out of London, Sydney and New York to teach in Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin. The surge in demand for teachers is consequently causing tuition hikes for TESOL certificates, which is required to teach English to speakers of other languages. Ping Zhang, Assistant Director of Astar Education Institute, says his organization rejects the notion that tuition rates must increase parallel with demand, citing the predatory nature of for-profit language academies.
“So often you see people getting their TESOL certificate because they want to take advantage of opportunities overseas such as work or travel,” Zhang said. “We actually lowered our rates so we can help more people jumpstart their careers in China. We focus on pairing teachers with students, not dollars and cents.”
Astar Education Institute, in contrast to other tuition rate hikes, has lowered the cost of their TESOL program by 60%, from $1,700 to just $690. They offer online, in-person or hybrid classes and guaranteed job placement in China.
“When the economy was good everybody could charge a job placement fee of around $200. Now we offer even higher quality teaching positions with our partners in China completely free of charge,” Zhang said. “Our TESOL graduates are successful students who become successful teachers, and as a non-profit organization student success is more important than revenue.”
Astar Education Institute, along with its parents company, Forte International, has been integrally involved with international education for more than two decades.
