Interoperable Open Architecture Event to Provide Defence Industry with Common Ground

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 29, 2012 - The ground-breaking annual event aims to further efforts to make open systems in the defence industry “truly open” by championing the use of middleware solutions based on open source, publically available standards. The result of this would be an architecture on which any solution provider with the necessary skill set can design and install a sub-system into the platform, ultimately leading to lower-cost, higher-quality procurement for defence ministries and delivered within a faster timeframe.

Douglas Schmidt, Chief Technology Officer at the Software Engineering Institute and one of 18 thought leaders on the speaker panel, commented:

“We, as a community, need to figure out how we can decompose these monolithic business and technical domains that we’ve dealt with in the past into much more manageable and individually computable elements via economic and value-based open software architectures that allow you to be able to get [defence equipment] out more quickly and to do it in a way that’s going to be interoperable, trustworthy and lower the total ownership cost.”
