Oct. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Robert McDonald of Garden City, a founding partner at Collins, McDonald & Gann, has been named a New York Metro Super Lawyer for 2012.  McDonald, a criminal defense attorney, is one of only five percent of attorneys in the state selected by Super Lawyers for this honor – which selects attorneys using a rigorous, multiphase rating process.

Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.  The 2012 list of New York Metro Super Lawyers was published in a recent New York Times special supplement.  In addition, the 2012 Super Lawyers – NY Metro Edition is also published as a magazine, as well as available online at http://www.superlawyers.com/new-york-metro/lawyer/Robert-A-McDonald/f1938e05-7005-40a1-905a-8b53e1204a9a.html

“Bob is a longtime leader in the legal community in New York and we congratulate him on being selected as one of this year’s Super Lawyers,” said Rick Collins, who along with Marc Gann co-founded the firm with McDonald in 1990.  “Being recognized by his peers for his many accomplishments is a significant honor, and is a reflection of Bob’s commitment to the practice of law and to his clients.”

A skilled trial advocate who has tried more than 60 jury cases to verdict, McDonald has successfully handled complex criminal cases through the New York metropolitan area.  A former Nassau County Assistant District Attorney, he is widely regarded as one of the most experienced criminal trial lawyers practicing in Nassau County, and has been formally rated by the legal community as a lawyer of very high to preeminent skill and integrity (AV rated.)  He has twice received the “Jurisperitus Award” from the Court Officer’s Benevolent Association of Nassau County and was previously nominated for the position of District Court Judge -- receiving a rating of “Well Qualified” from the Nassau County Bar Association and the endorsement of the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Benevolent Associations.

McDonald, a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law, is active in numerous professional organizations, including the New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association, where he is a member of the Grievance Committee.   He is a past president of the Former Assistant District Attorneys Association of Nassau County, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Nassau County Democratic Party.   In addition, he serves as adjunct faculty at the Hofstra University School of Law as a Special Professor of Law, and is a faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.

The Super Lawyers selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations by practice area.  Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement with selections made on an annual, state-by-state basis.
