Oct. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- (HOUSTON) – Wanting to lend a helping hand to make a difference in the Houston community, Phil Dvorak, managing partner of PODS Houston, a leader in the moving and storage industry, is leaving another charitable imprint by pitching in to support the South Belt Girls Softball Association.

To help keep these local girls physically active and fit, Dvorak has donated a safe, secure PODS® container to store the softball association’s equipment and items for as long as needed. For the past 25 years, the South Belt Girls Softball Association has provided girls with physical activity, good sportsmanship and interaction. Any girl between the ages of 4 – 16 is welcome to play. This fall season, the association has 144 girls and had 300 girls this past spring who play at local high schools while some travel across the nation to tournaments. All operating funds for the association comes from fundraising, registration and through support from area businesses such as PODS Houston.

“We see a lot of these girls come from lower income, broken homes with divorced or single parents,” said Sal Rodriguez, treasurer of the South Belt Softball Girls Association. “To have these girls come out and play is our way of keeping the community alive. We appreciate PODS Houston providing us with a container to store all of our equipment and provide our girls with a positive atmosphere.”

Since making its way into the Houston market in 2003, Dvorak has donated hundreds of safe and secure PODS® containers to more than 20 local nonprofit organizations. Some of the organizations PODS Houston currently supports are American Archangels, Chevron Houston Marathon, Houston Liberty Festival, Homes for Our Troops, Katy Independent School District, Houston International Festival, Pearland Community Center Christmas Toy Drive, Woodlands Waterway Art Fair, Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Independence Heights community garden project, The Society of Samaritans and Camp Hope. In 2012 alone, Dvorak saved local nonprofits more than $20,000 in logistics costs.

“I fully believe in supporting and making local nonprofits a huge priority through my business,” Dvorak said. “Many charities have some sort of storage or logistical need and our PODS® containers are convenient for them to use during an event. There is nothing more fulfilling than making a difference and getting the public engaged in the community.”
