Behind the M.A.S.K. of Homelessness

Oct. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Progress Transitional Housing presents a Masquerade Ball Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 6p-10p at The Matrix Center located at 13560 E. McNichols Detroit, MI 48205. The attire is black semi-casual w/mask. Tickets range from $15-$30 and are available at the door. Event highlights include a special presentation by homeless advocate and author of Thank God for the Shelter, Versandra Kennebrew, a silent auction, raffle and facility tour. A portion of all ticket sales are tax-deductible.

With more than one-million school-aged homeless students and massive unemployment, it’s time to move past the misconceived notion that homelessness is only for people with drug addictions and mental disease. Behind the M.A.S.K. will reveal Myths Affecting Society’s Knowledge of homelessness to eradicate this epidemic through awareness, education and prevention.      

Woman in Progress is a new program developed in a collaborative partnership with Matrix Human Services of Detroit. This program will provide transitional housing and supportive services to single women and women with children who are homeless recovering from substances abuse or domestic violence and in need of assistance with their transition back to the community on their re-entry.

Individuals in this program will receive the following supportive services; a safe, clean, structured, supportive recovery-environment with rooms and meals, goal planning, monitoring of your financial, educational, and social goals case management and coordination/referrals, advocacy in the attainment of permanent housing.
