Amigos Founder Alma Martinez of Redondo Beach, Calif., has been additionally honored during the 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game when fans across the nation and the Los Angeles Dodgers named her at "People All Star Among Us" in Anaheim on July 13, 2010. Known by many as "Mother Teresa of Redondo Beach," she has been helping HIV-positive, low-income Los Angeles residents for more than 20 years through an organization that helps provide food, medical care and social engagement.
According to Burton Danet, Ph.D., Co-Founder of A Better Community For All (ABC4All), "Alma Martinez' work is an example for people everywhere to support and duplicate. Her goal is to establish a hospice so clients do not have to die alone. It is through such 'Kernels of Hope' that the world can become better for all.
