Inverted microscopy, intuitive as standard

Olympus releases the highly-customisable IX73 system for a wide range of life science research applications
By: Olympus

Sept. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Olympus has released the new IX73 inverted microscope system for life science imaging, designed with an emphasis on ease-of-use and working efficiency. This makes it ideal for a range of routine and advanced research tasks. As it can be manual or semi-motorised and contains an innovative ‘open access’ light path, the IX73 can be easily customised to provide future-proof adaptability and highly sophisticated microscopy. Users can build a uniquely flexible system that enables them to produce expert results with minimal training. This extends from brightfield and phase contrast methods, through to fluorescent imaging. In addition, every image produced is of the highest quality, even during long or complex time lapse experiments, thanks to an enhanced new focus mechanism.  All applications take advantage of the IX73’s high quality UIS2 optics, stable and reliable frame and seamless cellSens software integration to generate insightful images at every magnification.

The IX73 has been designed to offer the upmost freedom and ease-of-use, with a range of manual or semi-motorized components to meet every need. Furthermore, the IX73 features a novel ‘open access’ light path that allows the systems to be rapidly modified, including a one-deck system with an ergonomic low stage height, or a two-deck system with additional expansion capabilities. Modules are easy to slide in and out, and include magnification changers, fast filter wheel turrets and more. This means that within minutes, every user can easily set up and customise the system to meet their unique requirements. Where necessary, customisable parts of the microscope are digitally encoded, allowing full synchronisation with the powerful Olympus cellSens software for accurate parameter documentation.

As well as inherent flexibility, the IX73 provides several enhancements to optimise user experience. These include a new manual stage that provides precise and fluid control, making sample positioning at high magnifications an easy task. The frame under the stage has also been cleverly designed, utilising a removable drip tray that helps prevent contamination and simplifies maintenance of the optical system. For high end applications such as rapid time-lapse imaging, the IX73 is compatible with the Olympus Real Time Controller. This automatically coordinates the synchronous action of filter wheels, shutters, light sources and cameras with microsecond timing for ultra-precision data capture. In addition, an extra large field of view (up to FN=22) can be uniformly illuminated at the camera port, making the IX73 ideal for use with cameras with larger chips.

With the new IX73 imaging system from Olympus, it is simple and comfortable to perform a multitude of imaging techniques, from long term time-lapse imaging through to routine research. In addition, a range of additional components, as well as the capacity for a user-defined level of automation, means that the new systems will meet your all life science needs, today and tomorrow.
