PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 21, 2012 - Back in 1991, female hip-hop pioneer Queen Latifah stated, “The idea of presenting an all-female revue is thrilling and long overdue." Yet, twenty one years later, the Houston music industry has failed to fully embrace the idea of the solo female rapper. A group of ten rap hard hitters have decided to put aside the beef and stand up for the under promoted lyricists in high heels. “When I go to a showcase I feel like I have to represent for the ladies because 9 times out of 10, I am going to be one of the few stepping on stage. I know we are out here but it’s time that we make moves together,” says BossLady Jaye (one of the headlining Lip Gloss and Lyrics performers). Jaye will be accompanied by Swisha House’s first lady Surreal, Street 93.3 internet radio station owner – DJ Fat Alberta, Ms. Kenya, RoseGold, Chocolate Ty, Justified, Miss Juicy, Ms. Red and Tawn P. These ladies have decided to use the Lip Gloss and Lyrics Concert as a platform to launch what they hope to be a global movement but this time the women are keeping the bras and burning the mics.
This movement is also receiving major backing from sponsoring companies such as Rap-A-Lot, Swisha House, Texas 101 Jams and A-Team Media Broadcasting Company. Tootie who is the owner of sponsoring company, Music 2 My Ears stated, “It is important that we give young ladies visible female role models who rap but also look like the girl next door. People have the misconception that female artist are glorified strippers, but the ones I know and support are not that by far. That’s why we are promoting this Lip Gloss and Lyrics Concert.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5CGCn9fv8w
