Oct. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Nihon Goshin Aikido (NGA) is a diverse and extensive set of scientific principles which, when mastered, may be transformed by the practitioner into a unique art form creating movements of beauty, grace and awesome power. In his book Integral Aikido: The Science, Art and Spirit of Nihon Goshin Aikido, Jim Giorgi draws on three decades of experience as an Aikido practitioner and teacher to present a clear, simple and comprehensive explanation of the art of Nihon Goshin Aikido.

NGA originated in Japan and focuses on self-defense training. An extremely effective system of self-defense, the application of NGA can inflict serious injury upon an attacker. Aikido is, however, a non-aggressive, defensive art that seeks to avoid conflict whenever possible. The energy of an attack is accepted without resistance and is used to neutralize both attack and attacker. Giorgi states: “In all cases of conflict, our intent is to use the least amount of force and inflict the least amount of injury necessary to restore peace, harmony and safety to all concerned.”

Integral Aikido is the first book on Nihon Goshin Aikido published in 12 years and represents a significant contribution to the literature of the martial arts in general and Aikido in particular. It analyzes and explains the essential foundations of Aikido practice using the principles of geometry, physics, anatomy, biomechanics and neuroscience. The movements are depicted in clear and artistically arranged photos. Giorgi states: “These are the fundamental principles and methods that will inspire practicing the art of Aikido and living one’s whole life integrally - with a healthy, energetic body, a clear mind, an open heart and a soaring spirit.”

"Here then is a definitive statement of the art of Nihon Goshin Aikido coming directly from one of its most knowledgeable practitioners. I know that it will be an essential resource not only for students of NGA but also for martial artists of any style anywhere in the world." - Sensei Robert B. MacEwen, Jr.
