London Paralympics 2012 Online

The Paralympics opening ceremony is just a few hours away at this time. The Paralympics are scheduled for August 29 through September 9, 2012.  The excitement of all Paralympics fans is at a high point right now.

The origin of the term "Paralympics" can be traced to a combination of "para" with "Olympics" signifying how these two work in parallel to each other.

A total of about 20 sports will be in the Paralympics in 2012, ranging from Archery to Wheelchair Tennis.  The Paralympic sports include the following:

Boccia
Cycling Road
Cycling Track
Equestrian
Football 5-a-side
Football 7-a-side
Goalball
Judo
Powerlifting
Rowing
Sailing
Shooting
Sitting Volleyball
Swimming
Table Tennis

A total of 471 events will take place, with about 150 nations participating in the London Paralympics. The same Village and many of the same venues used for the London Olympics will be used for the Paralympics as well.
