Aug. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Many businesses, especially online based businesses, have been scurrying around after search engine giant Google announced their largest algorithmic update of the year, known by codename Penguin, in late April, 2012.

Each year, search engines make over 500 changes to their ranking algorithms, placing different weights on what is important to achieve top rankings in search results.  2012 has been no different; however Project Penguin has left a large number of businesses that ranked on top for years finding their selves losing rankings.

A website typically wants to have a 25/25/25/25 linking profile; 25% of the links contain the brand name, 25% contain the website's URL, 25% contain keywords the site is trying to rank for, and 25% are various, random terms related to the site.  Simple SEO Group has corrected linking profiles for various websites to fall within their new linking parameters, and have seen great results and dramatic ranking improvements.
In addition to link profile changes, the algorithm also goes after sites that have on-site problems.  Years ago website owners could achieve top rankings by placing their keywords everywhere on the website and continually repeating the same keywords over and over.  Today search engines are much smarter, and this latest algorithm update also aims to penalize sites with unnatural on-site structures.  The best way to combat this is to use keywords sparingly, and optimize websites to maximize human user experience and not try to optimize websites strictly for search engines.
