The Oxnard Pallet Company, a minority and woman owned business, teamed up with Republic Services in January 2012. Since then, Republic Services has donated over 2.5 million pounds of used woodwork for the company. The Oxnard Pallet Company projects that they will receive about 18,000 pallets from Republic Services by the end of the year.
Once at the Oxnard Pallet Company, wood from the pallets that can be refurbished goes into a kiln to dispose of any bugs. The company then repairs, fixes and resells them, many of which are used by local growers. Wood that cannot be restored is sent to a local composting operation where it is ground into chips and used as mulch.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Oxnard Pallet Company,” said Stephen MacIntosh, general manager of Republic Services of Oxnard. “To help a great local company recycle and reuse materials saves money and sets a great example for the community.”
