July 25, 2012 - PRLog -- FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (July 25, 2012) – Cake decorators and challenge seekers alike are in for a treat at the debut MS Cake Challenge and Show: Mission Possible this Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Moose Lodge from 12 - 5p.m. in Fort Walton Beach.

Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated cakes and all proceeds from the cake show will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through the Challenge Walk MS fundraiser.

The event is open to the public and those interested in applying to be a part of the cake challenge can contact the coordinator of the event, Carrie Knife, or visit www.NWFLfightsMS.org for an application. Public viewing of the cakes opens at 12 p.m.

“Our mission is to find a cure for MS, which we believe is possible with the hard work and dedication of others,” said Knife of herself and her Challenge Walk MS Team JuST.

Knife’s passion for ending multiple sclerosis started with her mother’s diagnosis and several additional family members’ diagnoses. The Challenge Walk MS fundraiser for the Society is in Cape Cod September 7-9, 2012 and the time of year is special to Knife because the 7th of September this year would have been her mother’s 66th birthday, had she not passed in 2007.

Knife and her sister are remembering their mother’s life by participating in Challenge Walk MS together this year, a 50 mile walk in three days with a $1500 fundraising minimum.

“I think it’s going to be really emotional,” said Knife. “For us to be together and do something proactive the day of her birthday will be something special.”

Knife has been involved with fundraising for the Society since 2010 when she formed her first Walk MS team. Since then, she has raised more than $10,000 toward a world free of MS.

About Multiple Sclerosis:
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with the disease. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and over 2.1 million worldwide.
