By: Maureen E. Palmer Ms. DiGennaro was selected for 100 Top Women Leaders in STEM for being a respected leader of a non-profit who has made significant professional contributions in STEM. Over the last 30 years, she has advanced the STEM cause both nationally and internationally. A champion for support of high achieving students in science and math, she has also made STEM opportunities available to increase young female scholars. “On behalf of the Center for Excellence in Education, I am honored to receive the 100 Top Women Leaders in STEM recognition,” Since 1983, Joann DiGennaro has led CEE and established the Research Science Institute (RSI) offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO), collaboratively sponsored with Purdue University, and the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP), a program supported by public and private partnerships. Ms. DiGennaro has negotiated educational science programs with 52 nations to date. She has inaugurated the RSI in China, Bulgaria, India, and Saudi Arabia and helped to establish secondary school programs for gifted and talented students in Singapore and Israel. DiGennaro inaugurated the Research Science Initiative in China with Fudan University and in India at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in collaboration with the PSBB Millennium Group of Schools. Under the leadership of Ms. DiGennaro, the Saudi Research Science Institute (S-RSI) was inaugurated in 2011 at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. It is the first STEM program in the nation where female scholars study alongside their male counterparts. End
