Harper says that home education doesn't have to stop at the college level.

"Like most homeschooling parents when their teens reach high school, my wife and I had to really do our research to decide on an approach to college that would work for our family. We have definitely become believers in using credit-by-exam, in parallel with online and on-campus courses as needed, for our students to get an accredited college degree."

He says two of his own teens are more than halfway through their bachelor degrees, and will graduate from college debt free with marketable skills.

"With the student loan crisis looming on the horizon, I'm happy to steer my teens away from a path that will saddle them with tens of thousands of dollars in college debt. College doesn't have to be that way."
