Follow on Google News | RasPiThon raises over £500 for the Raspberry Pi Foundation!4 Students 12-16 Create game in 48 hours while raising over £500 for the Raspberry Pi Foundation while going against 2 DoS attacks.
By: RasPiThon The 4 students Ryan, Ben, Edward and Luke coded for 48 hours solid, and created a great looking game called Raspberroids and showed how much fun coding can be. For a bunch of students between 12 and 16 who proved how easy it is to code and be inspired by the viewers watching. The code has been released on Github under the Creative Commons license allowing people to modify it at will as long as they release the code after modification. “I’m surprised we were able to do it, after the DoS attacks taking down our website I was shocked about how high the donation count was after some people were unable to donate because of the attacks” says Ryan Walmsley - Event organiser. “The response about the game has been great, with people saying if any proof of concept was needed to advertise how the Raspberry Pi has influenced programming. This is one!”. Edward Jones said “I think it went better than we expected - we already had about 50 viewers before the event even started, and everybody was eager to donate. I hope they all enjoy the game we created!” It would not have been possible to do without the Raspberry Pi community supporting us throughout the DoS attacks. Here is a video showing a demo of the game and who help make it, although not filmed on a Raspberry Pi, the Raspberry Pi is still able to run it along with any other computers as long as Python and Pygame are installed. http://www.youtube.com/ End
